Twelfth ManThis project was shot in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympics, when the huge infrastructure investment was starting to take shape around the capital. The project focuses on London residents and how the stark contrasts of the Capital’s landscape provide a unique and sometimes unexpected folly for their chosen sports.
From the lily-white clothed locals playing cricket in Kennington Park, surrounded by the huge tower blocks that stand as sentinels around the boundary, to the twenty-two players that turn out in all weather for regular games at Bacon’s College, Rotherhithe, their game dominated by the iconic buildings of Canary Wharf.
The sport, the architecutre and the neighbourhoods may change, but the common thread binding these photographs together is the people. Wherever the place, whatever the sport and whatever the weather, without them the games would cease to exist.
